In Home Care Services - When Should You Utilize This?
In home care services is a term used to describe services provided by trained caregivers who come to the home of an elderly or disabled person to provide care for those needs who cannot care for themselves. In home care services may include but are not limited to custodial care, personal care, and respite care. There is no limit to what a caregiver can do for his or her client. In home care services may be done in an independent facility or with the client in the home.
In home care is highly skilled and requires a physician's written order for supervision. This form of care benefits older adults from a debilitating medical condition that prevents them from living on their own. It is often less expensive, more convenient, as well as more effective than medical care from a hospital or similar skilled nursing facility (skilled nursing facility). The services include but are not limited to home health maintenance, medical assistance, emergency care, companionship, and transportation. Some agencies hire and place trained caregivers in homes or individuals who are incapable of caring for themselves. These trained caregivers are known as in home caregivers or in home health aides.
Another type of in-home care service is that of a physical therapist. A physical therapist is trained to use various therapeutic techniques and equipment for helping people with injuries or disabilities. If a person has an injury or if they have become disabled due to old age, physical therapy can be very helpful. A physical therapist will work with their client to restore strength and use special equipment to help their client's function. Physical therapists are especially helpful to older adults who may have lost the ability to walk.
Other in home care services offered are housekeeping and laundry assistance. If the senior resident needs help doing simple errands or needs assistance getting into the bathroom, for example, a housekeeper can often be hired to do these tasks. Alternatively, a home health aide can sometimes perform these tasks instead. Many health care agencies will hire both a housekeeping and a health care aide in order to give the elderly resident an added level of comfort and assistance in their day-to-day activities.
There are also agencies that will provide assistance when it comes to traveling. If a disabled or aging senior needs assistance getting around or wants to visit the doctor, a travel agency can often make these arrangements or even help pay for the trip. Many senior home care services agencies will help a senior in need to visit the doctor or a specialist, take a trip to the grocery store, go to the library, or even pay for tickets to a popular destination. This type of agency will also coordinate travel between family members, friends, or a visiting relative.
Another service that is offered through a home care services agency is medical care. If you're considering a home health aide who needs to have their own medications, the agency can usually provide this. A medical assistant will need to purchase his or her own medications and equipment. In some cases, the agency may help cover the cost of prescriptions but may not cover all of the cost. However, it is much more likely that you'll be able to find some kind of a discount for using the medical aide rather than an in home health aide.
In addition to medical care, many agencies will offer other types of services. Sometimes a home health aide will work with other people in the community to help with chores or simple tasks. If you're considering getting a loved one on these services, keep in mind that the more services that are offered by the more expensive the overall cost will become. However, if the aide is truly dedicated to helping the senior in your life you may find that it's worth it.
Before you choose to get an in home care services agency to provide for someone, take the time to learn about the company. Look at before and after photos of their employees.
